I Know Dogs

Hi

Hope all is well with you and your dog.

I can’t wait to tell you and all my buddies including Dr. Dogma about the poem Garrison Keillor read to us. It’s about dogs…above average dogs. Dogs that wake us up to the other half of the universe. William Stafford says it all in this poem and reinforces my article 5 Reasons to Get A Dog.

Found this in an email from Garrison Keillor, this morning. If you’d like to listen to him reading, click here. (RealAudio)

Poem: “Choosing A Dog” by William Stafford, from The Way It Is. © Graywolf Press, 1998.

Choosing A Dog

“It’s love,” they say. You touch
the right one and a whole half of the universe
wakes up, a new half.

Some people never find
that half, or they neglect it or trade it
for money or success and it dies.

The faces of big dogs tell, over the years,
that size is a burden: you enjoy it for awhile
but then maintenance gets to you.

When I get old I think I’ll keep, not a little
dog, but a serious dog,
for the casual, drop-in criminal -

My kind of dog, unimpressed by
dress or manner, just knowing
what’s really there by the smell.

Your good dogs, some things that they hear
they don’t really want you to know -
it’s too grim or ethereal.

And sometimes when they look in the fire
they see time going on and someone alone,
but they don’t say anything.

Competition Is Good

I Know Dogs

Hi

Hope all is well with you and your dog.

I was overwhelmed to find out that the Dog Biscuit Gazette has competition with the local newspaper, The StarTribune. They have a special section devoted entirely to pets, including cats (uffda).

Can You Hear Me NowAlso, there are birds, fish, and exotic pets for owners with special tastes and needs i.e. space, mobility, and building restrictions. The Dog Biscuit Gazette does not have the professional staff or budget to cover all these topics so we concentrate on above average dogs and why you should own a dog. (My favorite article, 5 Great Reasons To Own A Dog.)

As a roving reporter and MENSA dog member, I cover the current news about above average dogs and how to take care of them. In my mind, all dogs are above average.

Competition is good and the more attention they can give to us is welcome. I have known many dogs that will even go get the newspaper from the driveway on Saturdays for the section on dogs and whimper until their owners read about us.

I rest my case.

Canine Cookies

Hi

Hope all is well with you and your dog.

It’s the holiday season and I did not forget our most important employee, Miss Daisy Roving Reporter.

Canine CookiesMost companies I know have a holiday party with music, balloons, gifts, and maybe a banquet. The Dog Biscuit Gazette was not any different. Miss Daisy has been a tireless worker, reporter, sage, and above average MENSA dog. No expense was spared including entertainment and goodies to reward this prize winner.

The Gazette owns several CDs of Dr. Dogma who supports and encourages canines to rise up and rule. For entertainment, she watches them over and over. Miss Daisy’s favorite TV programs after Animal Planet, with detective police dogs, is The Weather Channel. Why, I don’t know.

She broke a few balloons and polished off six liver snaps while romping around with a trail of crumbs.

Nevertheless, she had the day off and was given her favorite delight, a present of Canine Cookies before going to bed.

What a great employee.
