Obama’s Second Misstep

The New York Times said, “The blogsphere has gone crazy since President-elect Obama announced Tuesday night that he intended to fulfill a campaign promise to his daughters, who, he said had “earned” a puppy.”

Black aand white palsMy dog, Miss Daisy a Bichon Friese, jumped up from a belly rub, rolled her eyes upward and shook her head. She was very upset with that information and couldn’t believe our new president would be so inconsiderate. After all, he said it would be probably be a hypoallergenic mutt from the shelter without any regard to nationality because Malia had allergies. (Obama’s First Misstep)

Now Obama said that it would be ‘a puppy’ not two puppies but ‘a puppy’. In other words, the girls would only have one half puppy each. Is that fair”? Where would the dog sleep…whose room…whose bed? Who would get to name him/her (another issue)? Would there be a vote and who would break the tie…Vice President Joe Biden?

Little girls do sometimes fight over silly things and this would be the perfect issue to cause disharmony…something Sara Palin would likely promote as poor family values.

Miss Daisy is right and lobbies for two puppies plus the fact that one more dog would not have to be put to sleep. (Why not a couple more)?

Barrack Obama’s campaign was brilliant, inspiring, and motivating but there was one moment that was meant to be warm and fuzzy but in my dog’s opinion was a big boo boo. Miss Daisy yelped out loud in disbelief when it was announced by Barrack that his daughters Sasha and Malia would be getting a puppy this spring.

Miss Daisy said, “Do you realize the international turmoil this announcement will cause in our world relations? Here we are trying to mend the relations with our friends that have been frazzled to a bare thread and now this announcement could possibly return us to an alienated status.

Obama said that he was considering a hypoallergenic dog from a shelter because of his daughter’s allergies and one that does not shed and needs a home.

Well, I am a hypoallergenic, no shed, Bichon Friese from a shelter in Embarrass, MN who was blind in one eye and going blind in the other. (Fortunately, my new owners loved me anyway and had my eyes operated on so I can see like an eagle now.)

One issue, I’m a French dog. Do you realize the international turmoil this announcement will cause in our world relations if Obama adopted a foreign named dog? Here we are trying to mend the relations with our friends that have been frazzled to a bare thread and now this announcement could possibly return us to an alienated status. National jealousies would surface and favoritism charged.

I propose that Congress hold hearings on the nationality of a future puppy. (I know Barrack said that it would probably be a mixed puppy from a shelter and hypoallergenic.) Can we really be sure, however, that it is free from allergies?

Therefore, I suggest Congress set up a subcommittee of the Foreign Relations Committee, ‘Canines For The White House’ to consider purebreds that are hypoallergenic. This action would be a ‘win win’ for all. Countries would be invited to submit their best candidates for consideration and a lottery be set up to bail out General Motors and Ford.

Roosevelt’s Scottish terrier Fala and Reagan’s Cavalier King Charles Rex are good examples of international dogs that would exemplify what I mean. Some other examples of international dogs could be:
Bichon Friese
French Poodle
Pekinese
Dachshund
Australian Sheepdog
Mexican Chihuahua
British Bulldog
Russian Wolfhound
German Shepard
St. Bernard
Croatia Dalmatian
Irish Setter
